Paul Anderson to speak at Parliamentary Rugby League Group annual charity dinner
Former Great Britain and England stalwart Paul Anderson is to be the guest of honour at the Parliamentary Rugby League Group’s annual charity dinner.
Over the course of a long and successful career at Leeds, Bradford and St Helens, Anderson won three Super League winners rings, three World Club Challenge titles and three Challenge Cup titles. During a fifteen-year playing career he won 10 caps for Great Britain, and 5 caps for England.
On retiring, Anderson became an assistant coach at Huddersfield Giants, and was appointed Head Coach in 2012, a post which he held until 2016. In 2013, Anderson led the club to the League Leaders’ Shield, the first time Huddersfield had won the trophy in over 80 years. Anderson is now an assistant coach with England and has been heavily involved with preparing the England women’s team for their Rugby League World Cup campaign.
Taking place on Monday 20 November, the Parliamentary Rugby League Group’s annual dinner is hosted by Lord Hoyle and brings together Members of Parliament, Peers and rugby league supporters from across the UK to celebrate the sport and raise money for charity.
The announcement was made by Group Chair and Member of Parliament for Bradford South, Judith Cummins MP. She said “I am delighted that Paul Anderson will be the guest speaker at the Group’s annual charity dinner. Paul has a great deal of experience of rugby league at all levels, and Members are looking forward to hearing him speak about his career, and give his thoughts on the men’s and women’s Rugby League World Cups.”
Paul Anderson said “it is an honour to be invited to speak at the Parliamentary Rugby League Group’s annual dinner. The Group plays an important role of rugby league in the UK, standing up for our sport in Parliament, and ensuring we get the recognition we deserve. I look forward to speaking to Group Members and supporters.”
The Parliamentary Rugby League Group meets regularly in Parliament throughout the year to promote the sport and challenge issues. The Group’s annual charity dinner is taking place on 20 November. A limited number of places are available here.
