Parliamentary Rugby League Group Elects Officers
At its annual general meeting in the House of Commons on Tuesday 11th June, the Parliamentary Rugby League Group elected officers for its 25th anniversary and Rugby League World Cup Years.
Lord Hoyle became the Group‘s President; his position as Vice-Chairman being taken by Deputy Speaker Lindsay Hoyle MP. Greg Mulholland remains as Chairman of the Group, along with James Clappison and David Mowat as Vice-Chairmen. Lord Smith of Leigh returns to the role of Treasurer and former sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe was elected Secretary. The Group retained Mark Ramsdale as Secretariat.

Speaking after the AGM, Mulholland – who represents the Leeds North West Constituency – said: “this is a very important year for the Group and for rugby league. It’s our 25th Anniversary and during that time we have achieved some outstanding things. But looking forward, the Rugby League World Cup represents a fantastic opportunity for the game to showcase its very best and ensure that the UK continues to deliver wonderful international sporting events.
“On behalf of all my colleagues in the Group, we are very much looking forward to the World Cup and of course are doing what we can within Westminster and Whitehall to promote the tournament.”
