Parliamentary Rugby League Group Associate Membership
The Parliamentary Rugby League Group website (www.apprlg.org.uk) has been updated to make it easier for fans of the sport to become Associate Members of the Group and take part in Group meetings in Westminster. The updated “join” section on the site now allows organisations and individuals to register online and become an Associate Member immediately.
Associate Membership is available to any individual, rugby league club or commercial or charitable organisation that shares the Group’s singular remit “To support the sport of Rugby League Football”. All Associate Members agree to the Group’s constitution and pay an annual subscription based on their level of membership.
On updating the website, the Group’s Chairman Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland, said “The Rugby League Group is fast approaching its 25thyear, but there is a feeling that people are unaware that a Parliamentary Group exists to support Rugby League and that there are a core group of fans in MPs and Peers.”
“We’ve had some notable successes in our history, from overturning the ban on rugby league being played in the armed forces, to our campaign against the BBC’s Local Radio proposals this year.
“But there is more that can and should be done, and because Parliamentary Groups are not funded by the taxpayer, we rely on the time and goodwill of MPs and Peers who share a common interest. We are particularly indebted to organisations who want to become partners with the Group and we welcome Associate Members to engage with the Group and see how we
support this great game.”
