Parliamentary Group Chair writes to The Times regarding rugby league coverage
All-Party Parliamentary Rugby League Group Chair and Member of Parliament for Bradford South, Judith Cummins MP, has written an open letter to The Times regarding their decision to curtail rugby league coverage.
The Times has discontinued its coverage of rugby league by dispensing of its long-time rugby league correspondent, Chris Irvine.
Irvine had covered the game for The Times for the last 26 years, first as a full-time member of staff and, from 2010, as a freelance reporter. He will no longer cover rugby league for The Times, and though there will still be some coverage of the Challenge Cup Final and the Super League Grand Final, The Times will no longer cover the sport on a regular basis.
All-Party Parliamentary Rugby League Group Chair, Judith Cummins MP, said “it is incredibly disappointing that The Times has taken the decision to discontinue its regular coverage of rugby league.
“The sport is an important part of life for so many in this country, and we need to do more to ensure that it receives fair treatment from the media.”
